Before this season, Chelsea's loan system was widely criticized in world football for a lofty number of loan players without a successful transition to the main team. This season, Chelsea legend Frank Lampard came back as manager and gave the loan armies an opportunity which they took with both hands.

Leading the loan returnees is Tammy Abraham who surprised a lot of people even his most darling fans with how he effortlessly wrestled the number nine position from more experienced and established superstars and backed it up the goals and top performances so far this season.

Abraham, who endured loan spells at Bristol City, Swansea and Aston Villa told Chelsea's website that those loans moulded him into a better player.

“It was part of my journey. I knew I wasn't ready for the Chelsea first team at 17, 18, 19 years old so to go out there and experience men's football, learn different traits and add stuff to my game was really important for me.

“Bristol City [his first loan] was hard, moving away from home for the first time, but I needed it.

“I needed to experience what men's football was like and going out there into the big, wide, scary world was probably one of the best things at the time for me.

“You get to learn about the dark arts. There are things defenders do like little nudges or pinches in the back. At first, I was thinking “what are you guys doing?” but when I scored it lifted me even more.” He said.

Tammy Abraham is currently second-leading scorer in the Premier League with 11 goals, 3 goals behind leading scorer, Jamie Vardy.
