Chelsea are set to face Southampton at Stamford Bridge tomorrow hoping to overcome their recent poor home form.

The Blues recently lost to West Ham and Bournemouth at home, and Southampton will definitely be encouraged by Chelsea's struggle at Stamford Bridge when they face-off on Boxing Day for a match of the 19th round in the Premier League.

THE BLUE STANDS writers preview the game.

Chelsea are coming off a great outing against Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and will be full of confidence going into the game against Southampton tomorrow.

The Blues are unbeaten in the previous nine meetings with Southampton, recording outstanding eight wins and a draw. Chelsea beat Southampton 1-4 at St. Mary's Stadium earlier this season, and The Saints have failed to score in all of their last three visits to Stamford Bridge.

However, tomorrow's game won't be easy for Chelsea or Southampton. Both teams won away from home last weekend and will be hoping to make it two wins in games.

For Chelsea, captain Cesar Azpilicueta is a doubt after suffering a thigh injury against Tottenham, while Southampton will be without injured Moussa Djenepo and Yann Valery.

Prediction:
Considering Chelsea's record against Southampton and The Saints' poor form and defence. Southampton have the worst defensive record in the Premier League, conceding 37 goals in 18 matches. The Saints rarely pack the bus, so I think Chelsea have a good chance of winning at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day.

Prediction -- Chelsea 3-1 Southampton.

Southampton’s currently sitting 17th on the Premier League table. With a victory against Aston Villa in the last match week, they’ve now gone 3 clear of Aston Villa and just outside of the relegation zone. Their form in the last 5 games has been W/W/L/L/W which is decent for their standards. Since the last time they have faced Chelsea, Southampton’s tweaked their formation to a 4-4-2 with Danny Ings firing in all cylinders. He has a total of 11 goals and 1 assist in the Premier League so far with 5 goals in his last 5 games.

Southampton will do everything possible to get a point out of this fixture. They’ll take heart from recent performances by West Ham and Bournemouth at the Bridge and will do their level best to emulate something similar. It is quite possible that they could line up with 3 at the back knowing they have conceded on each of their last 5 games.

Predicting they will sit deep, wait for a swift counterattack with the likes of Redmond and Ings, and they are very good with set-pieces with James Ward-Prowse lethal in this department.

Chelsea head to this game with a massive confidence boost against Spurs in the last match week. A sublime tactical performance from Frank Lampard and his Chelsea team who simply played Spurs out of the park. However, winning at home and especially against lower table teams who sit deep has been a major issue so far this season. This is something Frank and the team will be desperate to fix to end this year with a bang. Kovacic is unavailable for this match due to suspension and this is a big blow to the team as he has been the standout midfielder for Chelsea this season so far. The other notable change could be Reece James being in the starting line up as Azpilicueta reported to have a slight injury.

Predicting Chelsea to revert to a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 as this will be an entirely different game to the Spurs one. More attacking outlets will be required to get the maximum points in this fixture. The likes of Pulisic, Tammy, Mount, and Willian should have fun in this game. Expecting Jorginho and Kante to control the midfield and really box Southampton in their half.

Prediction – Chelsea 3-0 Southampton.
