Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has admitted that Danny Drinkwater is fit enough to make his debut against Manchester City on Sunday if selected.

Drinkwater completed a 6-month loan move from Chelsea to Aston Villa this after but Dean Smith is positive about his readiness to perform on Sunday.

“I’ve spoken to people who’ve worked with him before. He wants to play football,” Smith said.

“It’s an opportunity for him to go and show everyone what a quality player he is. We all know it’s there, he just hasn’t had the opportunity to show it over the last three seasons.”

“He was on the bench against us on New Year’s Day. If someone is on the bench for a Sean Dyche team he’s ready to play.”

Drinkwater has played only two matches in the last 18 months, one of them came against Manchester City, the same team he will face on Sunday if selected by Dean Smith.
