Piatek could be heading to Chelsea

As Chelsea continue their search for a striker with Olivier Giroud's departure draws near, more names have been thrown around as potential signings. The latest name linked with a move to Chelsea is AC Milan's Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek who is currently playing second fiddle to new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Piatek is having a tough time at Milan but his credential as a goal scorer is never in doubt, and Chelsea are in need of a goal scorer as head coach Frank Lampard pointed out after another wasteful performance in front of goal against Hull City in the FA Cup on Saturday.

“There's no movement to speak of now. We got a punishment in the summer, for right or wrong, where we couldn't bring in players and a punishment is meant to hurt you,” he told BT Sport.

“My job, I suppose, the first part is work every day on the training ground with the players, can we get better, and to drive that. Then the other part is driving forward as a club to try and bring in players.

“We lost part of that as a club last summer. Now, we need to for the short-term, to push for the top-four. It's quite clear, I have a strong feeling about where we can improve personnel-wise to take us forward, so for me it's clear.”

Piatek is a striker that can suit the short-term plan Lampard talked about. Sky Italia’s Luca Marchetti (via MilanNews.it) reported that AC Milan have already received a €27m bid from Chelsea.

However, another Italian journalist, Nico Schira reported this evening that Krzysztof Piątek’s agent has offered him to Chelsea to replace Olivier Giroud, who's getting closer to Inter Milan, and talks ongoing.

Nobody knows what will happen before the end of the transfer window in few days, but the prospect of having Piatek as a backup to the main striker, Tammy Abraham is something Chelsea fans can warm to.
