Last night, The Telegraph's Matt Law broke the news that Ajax star midfielder Hakim Ziyech could be heading to Chelsea in the summer.

According to his report, Chelsea made a bid for the 26-year-old midfielder last month but was rejected by Ajax, who wanted to keep him in Amsterdam until the summer.

As expected other media outlets started digging for more clues, then earlier today one of the most reliable outlets in the Netherlands, De Telegraaf dropped the biggest news of the day, stating that Chelsea are in advanced talks to sign Ziyech from Ajax and a £38m deal will be completed in days.

It doesn't get more credible than that, but the question remains, do Chelsea really need to sign Hakim Ziyech?

I say a resounding YES!. He's what we have been missing. He's a super creative player, who has scored 6 league goals and provided 12 assists in Eredivisie this season. 50 career goals and 83 assists for Ajax.

These are ridiculously good numbers, something that is currently missing in the current Chelsea squad.

I don't need to say a lot, he's just a very good talented footballer as explained by his manager, Ten Hag.

“If you love football, you'll love Hakim Ziyech. Aside from his technical qualities, it's his footballing intelligence that makes him so strong,” he said.

“I have to be careful that I do not talk too much in superlatives, but it is just a fact that a footballer with his qualities would not stay in the Netherlands.”

According to @OptaJoe, Hakim Ziyech has created 421 goal-scoring chances for teammates in the Dutch Eredivisie since his Ajax debut in September 2016; 134 more than any other player.

Chelsea have been crying out loud for those qualities. He scores goals, shoots from outside the box, dribbles, crosses fantastically well, breaks lines with inch-perfect passes. His cross-field pass is one of the best in Europe. I mean, only a stupid man will say no to those qualities for just £38m.

Such creative force in Chelsea's midfield or attack will give the team a new dimension.

There is talk of him blocking Chelsea from buying Jadon Sancho but I don't think that if Chelsea are looking for someone with Sancho's qualities, they will seek a backup plan with someone with Ziyech's qualities. They are very different players. So, I don't think Ziyech's deal has anything to do with Sancho's deal.

If we don't sign Sancho in the summer, it's not because we have signed a replacement or because we paid £38m for Ziyech and don't have money for Sancho.

I believe we can have both if we want. Ziyech can basically play at a high level in 5 attacking positions, left-wing, right-wing, left attacking midfield, right attacking midfield and central attacking midfield. He's versatile. Again, even if he doesn't start games, having a quality player that cost just £38m on the bench is great.

Whichever way I look at it, I see only positives, that's not to say he's perfect, but he's definitely a player that will help Chelsea greatly.
