Birmingham City's centre-back Jake Clarke-Salter is back in top form. The on-loan Chelsea youngster was impressive in defence for Birmingham City in their 1-3 away victory against Bristol City last night.

According to Squawka's report, the 22-year-old is back to his best after a difficult time with injuries this season.

The report states: “Despite only being 22, Jake Clarke-Salter is starting to be a seasoned veteran of the Football League. The English centre-back has already had spells with Bristol Rovers and Sunderland, on top of a period with Vitesse, and while things haven’t been perfect, Clarke-Salter has been learning valuable lessons.

“These are valuable lessons he is currently put to good use with Birmingham, but again it wasn’t plain sailing. Joining from Chelsea on loan in the summer, Clarke-Salter has had to deal with injury problems and spells outside the team, making just 13 appearances prior to Friday night’s game.

“Four of those came in the past four league games, however, as Birmingham have been building an unbeaten run. And although they have conceded one goal in each of those matches, it is a marked improvement on their form without Clarke-Salter in the team – conceding 17 goals in six Championship matches.

“Birmingham extended that unbeaten run to five, continuing their move up the table, against Bristol City and once again Clarke-Salter played
his part. The 22-year-old won five aerial duels and made four clearances, forming a solid wall alongside Roberts – after his early mistake.

“And if Chelsea do not have a place for him next season, which isn’t a guarantee with their defensive problems, Clarke-Salter will be a solid centre-back for someone.”

Jake would be hoping for an injury-free second half of the season to give himself a chance of breaking into Chelsea's first team for next season.
