Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has admitted that his dream to coach Chelsea was the reason why he accepted the job last summer.

Lampard was approached by Chelsea after his first season as manager at Derby County. The Chelsea legend told his cousin Jamie Redknapp in an exclusive interview for Daily Mail that his desire to coach the club he loves was the deciding factor.

"I wanted it badly too. I do read, I do listen and I do take advice, and there were people telling me, 'Don't touch it', or 'It's too soon'. I understood all the arguments," he said.

"But the opportunity and what it meant to me as a former player who had been here for 13 years, I made the decision with my heart.

"My heart is Chelsea and I would be lying if I said when I took up management I didn't envisage being Chelsea manager someday. My head also looked at it and told me: 'It's early, but this is what I want to do.' When I added everything up, it was a clear decision."

Lampard took Derby County to the play-off final before moving to Chelsea to replace Maurizio Sarri who left to join Juventus.
