Chelsea's former sporting director Frank Arnesen has revealed that Chelsea came close to signing new Inter Milan signing Christian Eriksen but ultimately decided against offering him a deal because they already had Josh McEachran.

Frank Arnesen, who is currently working for Feyenoord told BT that Chelsea were really close to offering Eriksen a deal at Chelsea.

“When we trialled him at Chelsea, he hadn't been to other clubs yet,” he said.

“We were close to an offer for Christian Eriksen with Chelsea. But we already had a player of the same age in his position with Josh McEachran. He had been with the club since he was eight. We then chose him.

“He made the right choice with Ajax at the time. He was a senior international at a young age and has developed tremendously.”
