Roma's Chelsea loanee Davide Zappacosta has revealed his disappointment over the timing of his return from injury.

The 27-year-old right full-back who ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a training session in October 2019 said he's very close to making a return from injury before Covid-19 outbreak.

“I had just arrived in Rome and I had this injury that kept me out for quite a while,” he said in a social media chat.

“I was returning but then this chaos broke out. I had taken the ball, sprung and was doing everything on the pitch. I was close to returning. We are forbidden to do anything because the risk is too high. I do my best at home, I have set up a small gym I am trying to stay in shape. But the main thing now is health.

“The loan? It was annual, but there was a sort of Chelsea clause that said that if one of the full-backs were seriously injured I would have to return. Quite unlikely, isn't it?”

Zappacosta has played just 12 minutes of football for Roma since joining on an initial six-month deal from Chelsea.
