A top lawyer Nick De Marco has told Sky Sports news that players can't be held against their wishes to stay beyond June 30 when their contract expires.

FIFA are trying to find a way to let clubs keep players whose contract expires before the end of the season, which is likely to extend beyond June 30 when such contract is supposed to expire.

However, De Marco insists those players will agree with the plan to make it work or else they can leave and nobody can stop them.

“Legally, they cannot be forced to continue to play for the club,” De Marco said.

“Nobody can force them to do so; FIFA, the FA, the club or anybody else. If they want to walk away, that's a matter for them but it will really be a matter of whether, financially, that makes sense for them.

“If the players are out of contract then, so far as the law is concerned, they're no longer employees, and they're free to walk away.”

Chelsea have a few numbers of players that will be free agents by July 1. Willian, Caballero, Giroud and Pedro will have big decisions to make.
