Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovačić has revealed he is having a great time at Chelsea, playing under Frank Lampard.

Kovačić is arguably Chelsea's player of the season so far. The Croatia international's game has improved greatly under Premier League's greatest scoring midfielder.

Kovačić scored zero goals last season but has scored two goals with three assists in all competitions this season.

The 26-year-old knows that there is no better manager to learn from than Lampard.

“Frank Lampard came to the team and from the first moment our feeling was good,” Kovacic said in an Instagram Live interview.

“I liked the way he was training us — really hard training! — and I liked his character, how he was speaking to the team.

“I think I can learn a lot from him because all the things that I’m missing in my game — scoring goals, being more direct — are the things Lampard was amazing at in his career.

“He’s a great manager, he’s a great person, and I think I can learn a lot from him during my time at Chelsea.”

Lampard was full of praise for Kovacic after Chelsea's defeat to Bayern Munich, labelled him 'the only player that matched Bayern's quality'

“They need to understand the levels that the Champions League is when they get to the knockout stage,” Lampard told reporters after the game.

“I thought there were a couple of performances in our team, namely Kovacic, who played with a personality and a quality that makes you go: 'Okay, he can play in pretty much any team with that level'.

“Other than that we need to say tonight wasn’t a night where we showed that, and that’s on an individual to take responsibility.”
